Shipping agents act on behalf of shipping lines to coordinate vessel operations, handle port-related services, and manage documentation. Air and shipping lines, on the other hand, are the carriers that physically transport goods by sea or air. Together, they ensure that cargo moves smoothly from origin to destination, adhering to schedules and complying with international regulations. These agents initiate the process on behalf of the importers and exporters in the Jamaica Port Community System by announcing (or submitting) voyages for the vessels/aircraft leaving or arriving in port, and cargo manifests for the relevant trade types.
Traditional shipping and logistics documents are now digitized, allowing for more efficient and streamlined operations across the port community.
Manifests can now be created and submitted through a web-based platform that supports Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), improving accuracy and turnaround times.
The process for updating or amending manifest details has been simplified and fully digitized, reducing delays and administrative overhead.
Shipping agents can now digitally create and distribute transshipment bills, eliminating manual data entry and improving coordination between stakeholders.
Dock receipts are now generated and processed through a digital system, ensuring greater consistency, faster validation, and reduced paperwork.
The platform enables seamless communication between Customs, terminals, and other stakeholders, fostering better coordination and real-time data sharing.
