FAL Convention

Implementation of International Maritime Traffic facilitation standards

FAL Convention Module | Port Community System

About

The FAL Convention (Convention on Facilitation of International Maritime Traffic) was adopted by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to simplify and standardize the documentation required for ships entering or leaving ports. Its main goal is to reduce administrative burdens, speed up clearance procedures, and support the efficient movement of ships, cargo, and passengers.

The Convention encourages the use of electronic data exchange to replace manual processes, making port operations more efficient and secure. It also outlines a standard set of documents that public authorities typically require for clearance. These documents are used to protect national security, public health, and the environment, and to support customs and border management.

The FAL Convention module in the PCS allows Shipping Agents to submit these documents electronically to the relevant authorities in Jamaica, in line with international requirements.
