Cargo Handling Terminals

Cargo Handling Terminals are specialized facilities within ports where cargo is loaded, unloaded, stored, and transferred between ships, trucks, and trains. These terminals use equipment such as cranes and forklifts to manage the physical movement of goods. Additionally, they maintain inventory systems to track the location and status of cargo, ensuring seamless coordination between the various stages of the logistics process. The Port Community System helps minimize port traffic and increases port efficiency by facilitating appointment scheduling and verifying whether containers meet the necessary requirements for entry and exit to the terminal for both import and export operations.

Key Changes & Improvements

Digital Documentation

Paper-based documentation has been eliminated for various transactions, allowing for faster processing, reduced administrative burden, and a more environmentally friendly approach to port and trade operations.

Online Authorization

Delivery orders and releases are now digitally verified, enhancing security, reducing processing times, and ensuring smoother cargo movement within the port environment. Gate pass verification will be included in future system enhancements.

Appointment Management

Container appointments can now be vetted and scheduled online, allowing for better coordination, reduced wait times, and more efficient use of terminal and trucking resources.

Release Processing

Goods release has been streamlined through PCS authorization checks, ensuring that all necessary approvals are in place before cargo exits the terminal, thereby enhancing efficiency and compliance.

Resource Optimization

The allocation and management of port resources have been improved through digital planning tools, enabling more effective scheduling, reduced congestion, and optimized use of infrastructure and personnel.

Integration Benefits

The Port Community System (PCS) now enables seamless communication with Customs, truckers, and other stakeholders, allowing for real-time information exchange, enhanced coordination, and more efficient management of cargo throughout the logistics chain.
