Truckers

Truckers are responsible for the road transportation of goods between ports, warehouses, and final destinations. The truckers use the JamaicaPCS to verify if a container is ready for pick up or drop off at the terminal and to schedule appointments. Truckers coordinate schedules to minimize delays at terminals and ensure the timely delivery of goods to their intended destinations, contributing to the overall efficiency of the trade process.

Key Changes & Improvements

Paperless Operations

Containers can now be collected without the need for physical documentation, as all necessary authorizations and verifications are handled electronically through the Port Community System (PCS), streamlining the release process and reducing delays.

Digital Authorizations

Delivery Orders and Customs Releases can now be verified online, enhancing security and efficiency in the cargo release process. Gate-Pass verification will be added in a future system update to further streamline terminal operations.

Appointment System

A standardized system is now in place for scheduling container collection appointments at terminals, promoting fairness, reducing congestion, and improving the overall efficiency of port operations.

Resource Optimization

Planning and utilization of trucking resources have been improved through digital scheduling and real-time updates, allowing trucking companies to optimize routes, reduce idle time, and enhance overall operational efficiency.

Terminal Efficiency

Waiting times have been reduced through the synchronization of container readiness, allowing truckers to arrive only when containers are cleared and available, thereby minimizing delays and improving terminal flow.

Digital Permits

Electronic verification of trucker licensing permits is not yet available; however, this feature is planned for future implementation to further enhance security and streamline access control at terminals.
